Dr. Guarino is a seasoned interventional pain management physician with over 25 years of clinical experience in the St. Louis area. With a specialization in minimally invasive procedures for the spine and major joints, Dr.Guarino has dedicated his career to improving patients’ quality of life while establishing himself as a trusted expert in the field. Over the past two decades, he has been involved in hundreds of medical-legal cases, offering comprehensive pain management consultations for both plaintiff and defense attorneys. His expertise spans a wide array of conditions, treatments, and case complexities, making him a valuable asset in understanding and addressing the nuances of pain-related legal matters.

Dr. Guarino has provided expert testimony in over 40 depositions and has testified in local and federal court 17 times, showcasing his ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex medical information. His experience, combined with a meticulous approach to case review and his dedication to impartiality, ensures attorneys and their clients receive well-supported, credible evaluations. Anthony H. Guarino, M.D.

After obtaining his medical degree at the University of Maryland, he completed a one-year internship in medicine at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and an anesthesiology residency and formal training in pain management at the Johns Hopkins Hospital (1993-1997). His training in pain management has included not only the training for injections with anesthesiology but also the surgical approach with neurosurgery as well as the psychological approach with psychiatry.

In February 1998, Dr. Guarino was recruited to direct the pain management services for Washington University at Barnes Jewish West County Hospital. He provided pain management services until he retired in April 2019. He has subsequently joined Physician Partners of America (PPOA). Dr. Guarino has joined the Interventional Pain Institute, October 2022. He continues to focus on evaluating and treating not only the area of pain, but the whole person.

He has broad clinical interests, which include management of chronic/complex pain syndromes using interventional modalities and multidisciplinary pain management.

In addition to his clinical duties, he provides consultation to the medical/legal community. He has published extensively in a variety of journals, and he is the author of Get Your Lower Back Pain under Control – and Get on with Life.
